Appointment System

Appointments can be made by calling either Guilsborough Surgery on 01604 740210 or Brixworth Surgery on 01604 880228.

We endeavour to give you the right appointment, with the right clinician at the right time.   Please help us to achieve this by providing our receptionists with the information they ask.

Some appointments are available online via the NHS app or EMIS access.  Please download the NHS app or register with EMIS access to use this service.

Our appointment system is regularly reviewed to try and offer the best possible service.

Saturday afternoon: remote appointments with Livi.

Appointments can be booked by contacting your own practice reception team. Patients needing urgent care when their practice is closed should continue to call NHS 111 in the usual way.

Home Visits

Patients are requested, where possible, to telephone before 10:30 if a home visit is required that day.

Please note that the doctor may telephone you rather than visit you if this is medically appropriate. Ultimately it is the doctors right to decide whether or not a visit is appropriate for a particular set of circumstances.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

It is important that you notify reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment so that the appointment can be offered to another patient.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about some of your appointments.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Travel vaccinations

If you're planning to travel outside the UK you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

Chaperones

If a doctor or nurse needs to carry out an intimate examination you may ask for a Chaperone to be present.  This is usually an available member of staff or can be a person of your choice.  If no-one suitable is available another appointment can be arranged.

Training Practice

We are a training practice and most of the time we have GP Registrars. These junior doctors have worked for at least three years in a hospital are finishing their specialist training as a GP. We also have Foundation doctors working with us, these doctors are in their first two years of training after completing their medical degree. We also have medical, nursing and health visitor students learning in our practice for most of the year. You can always choose whether to help us with our training or not.

Videos

Our trainees (doctors, medical students) have to provide videos of themselves consulting to the training authorities. They watch the consultation afterwards with their clinical supervisor and discuss their consultation style and clinical management of the patient. These videos are permanently deleted as soon as they have written up their learning.

Occasionally partners will video themselves in order to improve their consulting skills.

You will always be able to choose not to be videoed – at any stage, and we will never video you without your explicit written consent.

Automated Check-In

When you arrive at the surgery for your appointment, look for our 'automated check-in' which is located on the wall near reception. With a few simple steps you can check yourself in for your appointment without having to queue at reception. This is ideal for those patients who just wish to let us know that they are here. You will still need to see the receptionist if you have any other requirements.
