DOCTORS

Did you know it takes on average at least ten years to train to be a GP after starting at University. This consists of five years at medical school followed by two years as a foundation Doctor spent working in hospital with some time in General Practice.  Those wishing to be a GP then need to apply for GP speciality training and complete a three year program which includes work in GP surgeries and a range of hospital specialities.  Challenging practical and written exams must be passed and all evidence of competence approved before the Doctor can join the GP specialist register.

Once working as a GP many Doctors develop a special interest and may go on to carry out minor surgery, joint injections, advanced dermatology, family planning, frailty care or specialise in a particular branch of medicine.

At Saxon Spires we are fortunate to have a diverse team of GPs who can all deliver core medical care but also can provide many more specialist services within the practice.

Some of our GP’s special interests include: Family planning, women’s health, Frailty care, diabetes, men’s health, dermatology, mental health, safeguarding, child health, musculoskeletal medicine and minor surgery.

Our GPs also mentor and supervise many other team members such as physiotherapists, clinical pharmacists, paramedics and podiatrists.  GP trainers are responsible for ensuring the development of our Doctors in training working with local training schemes.

All GPs have an annual appraisal to ensure competence and encourage ongoing development.
